Merseyside Boyhood Allegiances

There are a few players who have played for either Everton or Liverpool despite their boyhood allegiances lying with the team the other side of Stanley Park.

Jamie Carragher is possibly the highest profile in recent times who despite playing for Liverpool made no secret of his love for Everton.

Carragher said in his autobiography “My loyalties were exclusively to my heroes in blue, and I wasn't shy of showing Liverpool fans, players and staff how I felt about my team, even while I was training alongside Anfield legends”.

Carragher has since gone on to show 100% commitment to Liverpool while Everton’s left back Leighton Baines was a boyhood red despite occasionally bunking into Goodison Park as a youngster with his mate once the gates opened to let supporters out towards the end of the game.

Liverpool legend and a thorn in Everton’s side Ian Rush was also a boyhood Evertonian and was close to joining his boyhood heroes before he eventually signed for Liverpool.
