Racism

Everton and their fans have always said they won’t tolerate any kind of racism and any fans caught making derogatory remarks towards any other fans or players will be banned for life.

The club have strived to make the club accessible to all sections of the community.

The club have worked hard over the years to eradicate this kind of behaviour and have had many successful campaigns such as Kick It Out and Show Racism the Red card.

Cliff Marshall was the clubs first black player but more recently it wasn’t really till Everton signed Daniel Amokachi that the tide started to fully turn with regards to eradicating racism from the terraces.

Everton made the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2000 for fans racist chanting aimed at Leicester City’s Brit/Turk player Muzzy Izzet who was targeted partially after Leeds fans were stabbed by Galatasaray fans in Turkey. Chants were also allegedly heard referring to Leicester’s large Pakistani population.

A famous photograph was once taken of Liverpool player John Barnes, in full Liverpool kit and mid-match, casually backheeling away a banana which had been hurled at him during a derby match with Everton at Goodison Park.
