The Sandon pub was the original headquarters of Everton Football Club when we played at Anfield before the move to Goodison Park in 1892. The move was down to John Houlding the then Club's then president and Sandon pub owner putting up the rent resulting in the formation of Liverpool Football Club.
Before the move Everton players were made to change in the Sandon before matches and walk upto the ground with the supporters.
The pub is on 'Houlding Street' near to Anfield and is now a regular haunt for Liverpool fans before they go to the game. The pub still however recognises the significance it holds an pays proud homage to being the birthplace of the city's two football clubs.
