Talking Points (December 2012)

Q. Should Everton attempt to resign Joleon Lescott even if it's just on loan?

There's no doubt Lescott and Jagielka were a great defensive partnership even if Lescott did spend a lot of time out of position at times during his Everton career. Sylvain Distin was brought in as a natural replacement for Lescott with Distin also being left footed he was the perfect replacement in a positional sense at least.

However with Distin nearing the end of his footballing career it means that sooner or later a replacement is needed. Lescott would be perfect but I'm sure many fans will not forgot the circumstances in which he left the club.

Financially I cant see City letting him go on the cheap but a possible loan could be feasible with any permanent move likely to depend on whether we reach the Champions League I suppose but I don't think that would make or break a permanent deal if the fee was significantly reduced.

Q. Is Naismith getting unfairly judged as he's regularly playing out of position?

Steven Naismith has had a hard time since joining Everton with injuries, lack of match fitness and the rumblings coming out of Glasgow surrounding Rangers recouping some sort of transfer fee.

He does seem a little lightweight at times despite popping up with some important goals. Moyes has recently played him on the right and he doesn't in my opinion seem to have the ability to play there.

Seamus Coleman, Leon Osman, Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas are all capable when fit of playing there and all have more of a attacking threat than Naismith has shown so far.

Many Everton fans though Naismith was bought to link up with Jelavic as a second striker whilst also being able to play out left if needed but on the right he looks poor and maybe it's not his fault as injuries have forced Moyes hand.

Q. Is it time to start looking for a replacement for Tim Howard?

We would do well to find a better keeper than Tim Howard but over the next few years a replacement does need to be found but not just yet.

He is one of the best Goalkeepers in the league still however his recent poor distribution and tendency to punch instead of catch the ball has got a few fans worried!

Q. Should we bring back standing to Goodison Park?

The subject of bringing back standing to football grounds is a sensitive subject on Merseyside and I cant see Everton wanting to bring it back even if other club are eventually successful in doing so.

Q. Are other team's starting to get onto Everton's policy of going down the left hand side all the time?

Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar's partnership down the left is special and the temptation to play everything through Baines and Pienaar is tempting. Other team's are starting to comment on the partnership however with the arrival of Kevin Mirallas I believe Everton have the perfect foil now down the right hand side of maybe this can shake things up a bit and free up Baines and Pienaar more.
